When using an abundance of white in a space, it’s important to increase texture wherever you can. Similarly, adding white bedding to our master bedroom, along with touches of blue, created an instant feeling of relaxation and calm. Not only does a foundation of white allow the beauty of your home to shine, it’s one of the best beach house decorating ideas if you’re on a budget.Īdding a fresh coat of white paint, a white sectional, a round wood coffee table, and a beach themed rug to our living room made this space feel more casual and comfortable. If you’d like to make your house look beachy, adding white to your home–whether through paint or fabric–is a simple refresh. Whether you already live near the ocean, or are miles from the nearest beach, like me, that breezy, beach house feeling can still be yours by adopting a lighthearted approach to decorating and incorporating just a few simple elements in your home. Since a complete renovation wasn’t possible, I decided to simply incorporate many of the elements I loved about the Bea’s Nest in our current home–or at least bring a lighter, beach themed feeling to our living spaces. I returned home wanting to redecorate every space in our house (and paint our wood flooring white!). Modern beach house decor will often feature tasseled pillows in textured fabrics, layered vintage rugs, plenty of woven elements, unfinished woods, and natural textiles–especially linen.Īnd, although beach house style has evolved a bit from its modern coastal roots, an easy, breezy, laid-back feeling is still central.Ī few places to find furniture, linens, and decor with a modern beach house aesthetic include Pottery Barn, Jenni Kayne, Dear Keaton, Serena & Lily, Anthropologie, and Lulu & Georgia.Ī couple of years ago, our family spent a week at a beautiful coastal home, the Bea’s Nest, located just a block from the beach on Isle of Palms, South Carolina.Įverything about this beach home exudes beauty and an elevated simplicity, from the linen slipcovers on the living room sofa, to the rustic reclaimed wood coffee table, painted wood floors, and distressed vintage wool rugs. Pure Salt Interiors – similar sectionals here, here and here – similar coffee table here, here, here, and here Think comfy seating, wrinkly linens and cottons, casually thrown pillows and throw blankets, and weathered woods. Where modern coastal interiors are typically a bit more tailored and refined, beach house interiors are generally more neutral and organic, with a carefree (yet chic) aesthetic that doesn’t take itself too seriously. While both modern coastal and modern beach house decor incorporate an abundance of natural elements such as wood, baskets, natural rugs, woven light fixtures, and fabrics like cotton and linen, there are a few differences between the two. I know there are many different versions of coastal style interiors, from California casual to chic Hamptons to Nancy Meyers-inspired coastal grandmother style - and many more - but today I’m taking a look at a version of coastal décor that lends itself to many different design aesthetics, modern beach house style. For years, I changed my color scheme and decorating style with the seasons and trends, but once I started decorating with a beach house inspired color palette of crisp whites, fresh blues, and soft neutral decor, everything just started to make sense! If you’ve been following along for a while, you know I love decorating our home with a touch of modern coastal style.
